To use the words of UC Davis, “The Old Federal Vineyard of To Kalon is the most significant vineyard in the state if not the world. It has contributed more to our understanding of viticulture than any other. Research at the Station began with Hiram Crabb and the California Viticulture Commissioners in the 1880s, continued with the USDA until the end of prohibition and now is one of the UC Davis Department of Viticulture and Enology.” Not to understate this, but making wine from this vineyard is a dream and an honor - one we don’t take lightly. The finished wine reflected the clay and sand soils of this unique parcel, creating a wine that is elegant and complex - with a softer texture than many of its neighbors.
