The 2022 Bourgogne Blanc Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Montagne 382 matured in 25% new 228-liter barrels. It has a complex bouquet with scents of chamomile and white tea interlacing the citrus fruit. Fine delineation. The palate is quite ripe on the entry, though not over-ripe, more generous with subtle tropical passion fruit and guava notes. There is another layer of spiciness underneath and a very controlled and persistent finish. Excellent.

Montchovet was the man who taught DRC, Leflaive and Leroy how to grow biodynamically… so the vines that Boris has been working with are in perfect condition. The estate is a true pioneer of organic and biodynamic viticulture in Burgundy, certified by Ecocert and Demeter.

The domaine is really starting to make waves, with Wine-Lister recently naming as one of it’s 5 domaines to watch (from anywhere in the world, not just Burgundy). The French newspaper Le Figaro last week called it a domaine where ratings/prices should explode higher.

As William Kelley (The Wine Advocate) said “In short, we appear to be witnessing the overnight emergence of a new reference-point producer, and I encourage readers to take notice.”

“Champy is a good example of how a talented and driven winemaker doesn’t need a bundle of Grand Crus in order to make a name for himself.”  Neil Martin
