'22 WVWA Cristom Chard "Subduction Seduction"
THE WINE: The geological drama of the Willamette Valley began when the Juan de Fuca Plate subducted beneath the North American plate, eventually uplifting the basalt soils that helped create the longitudinal Eola-Amity Hills AVA. This seductively salivating blend from the eastfacing Seven Springs hillside vineyard and the west-facing Royer hillside vineyard captures the tension and generosity of Chardonnay from the Eola-Amity Hills. The southwestern slope, directly cooled by the Ocean breezes, contributes riveting acidity and nervousness, while the southeastern slope bestows sun-kissed richness and texture. A fusion of earth’s alchemy, terroir, stewardship, and craftsmanship, this Chardonnay is vibrant, complex, and alluring.
THE WINERY: For more than 30 years, Cristom Vineyards has crafted distinguished wines that honor individual sites and traditional techniques. Established in 1992 by the Gerrie family and now steered by the second generation, we steward five worldclass vineyards on a windswept, east-facing volcanic slope in Oregon’s Eola-Amity Hills.
Driven by a 100-year vision, our 240-acre estate is farmed using biodynamic and organic
methods that reveal the purest expression of terroir. The dedicated winegrowing team, led by Owner and Winegrower Tom Gerrie, blends site-specific wisdom with revered winemaking traditions — low yields, whole-cluster and native yeast fermentations — crafting elegant, structured, and dynamic wines.
