Muddled yellow apple, ripe Anjou pear and white nectarine aromas mingle with white blossom and lemon peel on the nose. Freshly-sliced orchard fruit washes across wet stone that follows an estuary of citrus on the finish. Pair with fried calamari, mango-salsa tacos and roasted chicken.
Menetou-Salon is in the central Loire Valley; Most wines are not exported from here (only 15% leave the country) so it's a treat to experience this appellation stateside. Often compared to its neighboring appellation of Sancerre, these wines tend to be a better value yet with their own intriguing qualities and truly unique from Sancerre. 100% Sauvignon Blanc.
La Clef du Récit is situated in Vinon, 7 km south of Sancerre. The Estate was taken over in 2012 by Anthony Girard, a dynamic young winemaker, after having the opportunity to purchase an 8.5 hectares of first class vineyards nearby the small village of Récy (hence the name) in the southern part of the appellation.
Today, the estate covers 16 hectares and produces Sancerre, Menetou-Salon and Quincy appellations, in the respect of the vine and the soils to find the balance reflecting the local terroir..
