Paso Robles is THE place in California for Rhone-style wines, and people are finally giving it the recognition it deserves. Its chalky soils and diverse climates are perfect for growing the varietals of Southern France. 2023 Villa Creek Farmhouse Red is no different and really over delivers for the money. Made up of 50% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 20% Zinfandel, 10% Petite Sirah, sustainably farmed and certified organic.
The nose gives notes of dark cherry, black currants, and a slight pepperiness all with a tantalizing herbal undertone. The palate shows a little brighter with fresh berry jam, fig, and citrus zest with nuances of savory spices. I love the balance of this wine, medium body with composed acidity and tannins. A great expression of what Paso Robles has to offer, don’t sleep on this one!
Farmhouse Red is a spicy, lifted effort, with citrus zest and sour cherries forming
its inviting bouquet. Silken textures mingle withjuicy acidity and mineral-in ected ripe red berry fruit, complicated by a hint of savory spice. The palate is left completely refreshed, with nuancesof licorice and sage lingering long.”
